About
The Social & Immigration Justice League was born out of proximity—not theory. In the summer of 2025, community members in Northwest Ohio began paying closer attention to what was happening at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio (CCNO). People were being held on immigration detainers, separated from their families, transferred far from home, and kept largely out of public view—often without local residents realizing it was happening at all.
What started as showing up—attending meetings, asking questions, listening to impacted families—quickly became something more urgent. We saw how easily harm thrives in silence, how accountability breaks down when no one is watching, and how profit-driven detention depends on community disengagement.

Our work began by supporting detained neighbors directly—through letters, commissary assistance, and community connection—and grew into public accountability efforts: monitoring oversight boards, demanding transparency, educating residents, and building coalitions with groups across Ohio who were asking the same hard questions.
The Social & Immigration Justice League exists to make sure our neighbors are not treated as invisible, disposable, or unworthy of dignity. We believe real change starts locally, with people who are willing to show up, tell the truth, and stay.
Our Approach
- 01
We are committed to non-violence
We have committed to an organizational lifestyle of non-violence, best defined by Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mohandas Gandhi. Learn More.
- 02
We Start Local
We focus on what is happening in our own communities—where decisions are made, contracts are approved, and harm often goes unseen.
- 03
We Show Up Where Power Operates
Board meetings, public records, oversight bodies, and decision-makers matter. We pay attention, ask questions, and refuse to let accountability slip through the cracks.
- 04
We Center Impacted People
Our work is guided by the experiences of detained individuals, their families, and community members closest to the harm—not abstract policy debates.
- 05
We Combine Care With Pressure
Supporting neighbors and challenging systems are not separate efforts. We provide mutual aid and community support while also demanding structural change.
- 06
We Work in Coalition
We collaborate with local and statewide partners who share our commitment to dignity, transparency, and justice—because no single group can do this work alone.
- 07
We Stay Grounded in Facts
Our advocacy is rooted in documentation, public records, and verifiable information. Truth is a powerful organizing tool.
- 08
We Build Long-Term Community Power
We are not chasing one moment or one outcome. We are committed to sustained engagement, education, and organizing that lasts beyond a single campaign.
Our Values
Human Dignity First
Every person deserves safety, care, and respect—regardless of immigration status, income, or background.
Neighbors Over Numbers
We center real people and families, not statistics, contracts, or profit margins.
Accountability Is Non-Negotiable
Public institutions must answer to the communities they serve. Silence and secrecy enable harm.
Community-Led Action
Those closest to the harm should help shape the response. We listen, learn, and act alongside impacted neighbors.
Transparency & Truth
We believe in clear information, honest conversations, and making public systems visible and understandable.
Nonpartisan, Values-Driven Work
We are not aligned with a political party. We are aligned with human rights, fairness, and the public good.
Solidarity Over Charity
Our work is about mutual care and shared responsibility—not saviorism or one-way help.
Persistence Matters
Change rarely comes quickly. We commit to showing up consistently, especially when it's uncomfortable or inconvenient.
Our Team
Our board members bring deep commitment to justice, community accountability, and grassroots organizing. Together, they guide our work with integrity and a shared belief that everyone deserves dignity.
